Happy Fall and Second Piece Half Price with Gioia in October
Now we are going to celebrate the first days of fall,
Autunno. I personally love the colors of the plants, trees, sky, ceramics, linens, jewelry, and the bouquets of flowers. We will be in Italy to visit family and artist friends in Gorgonzola, Venice, and the Amalfi Coast. We look forward to meeting up with the Fr. Gary Thomas group from our area to share in a Papal audience, Vatican mass, and the sights of Roma, my first home away from home.
No matter how many times I visit, I love to just “be” in Roma, the Imperial City. Not all of the history is to be proud of, but with bare hands those Roman slaves built the most magnificent buildings of all time and it is incredible that they remain standing and are continuing to be excavated today. One of my favorite things to enjoy in Roma is an early morning walk, usually from the Piazza di Spagna down the Via del Corso, through Piazza Venezia, past the Piazza Argentina, across the Ponte d’Angeli with the view of the Castel Sant’Angelo, and down the street to the Vatican.
I like to look and listen to the Italian people early in the morning taking their morning coffee, purchasing
le notizie, news, and talking and talking with each other, usually in animated fashion. (probably because of the espresso!).
I love the colors of the fall everywhere but especially in the north at the foot of the Alps where our family lives. The foliage is turning color in such cities as Bergamo, around the lakes of Como, Garda, and Lugano, to name a few, as well as along the rivers and canals of Trezzo sull’Adda, Merano, Breschia, and through the vineyards of the Veneto and Udine regions where the
prosecco, asti and other sparkling wines are made.
In Venezia we will celebrate the fifth birthday of Alessandro and plan to enjoy Venice through the eyes of the children. I love to buy Pinocchio masks large and small, Pinocchio puppets, Dottore della Pesta, Arlecchino with his diamond shapes on his suit and all of the marvelous costumes. I love to sit in the St. Mark square after a day of walking and rest with the classical music of two fine orchestras. We will visit with Romeo and Terri Italian Decorative Art and stay in the Casa Ida that we advertise.
I look forward to visiting the artists that paint the beautiful ceramics that we present to you. And I look forward to seeing Tonino, a friend of our family, and to see the beautiful custom coffee table box that is being created for one of our clients.
I hope to enjoy a “float” in the Mediterranean and a water taxi or two in the south along the coastline and learn more about the city of Salerno where our grandmother Jennie’s family lived.
