Festa Gioia is a “Come over for lunch shopping experience." If you have not yet attended and you live in the area please add celebrating Festa Gioia with us to your New Years Resolutions. When you choose to shop with us online or shop by appointment at our store, we always enjoy extending the Old Fashioned Italian Hospitality that we were raised with.
Welcome, Benvenuto 2014! The Year of the Italian Language in America. We will keep you posted on events that will support the beautiful Italian language.
How will you celebrate this New Year? In Italy they celebrate outdoors, even in cold temperatures, with fireworks after a hearty meal that commemorates the Feast of
San Silvestro, Saint Sylvester. The meal usually consists of pork and lentils, the pork for good health and richness of life, and the lentils, like coins, for prosperity. I love all of the tradition and symbolism in the Italian culture. Around the world New Year's Eve is sometimes known as “Silvester,” and many New Year's Eve events are named for him. Of the many stories I've read, the legend I find most interesting is when Constantine was ill and sent for Pope Silvester after receiving a message in a dream that the pope would cure him. Pope Silvester baptized Constantine and his men, bringing Christianity eventually to the Roman Empire.
In July we visited four artists that we work with in Tuscany.Because it takes much time to create and paint ceramics,
ceramiche, by hand, these items are still arriving. We are celebrating CARNIVALE VENEZIA. In Italy the celebrations begin the second week of January. The 15 Feb,
Febbraio, to 4 March,
Marzo, are the official dates of the Venice Carnival celebrations.
