Why is it happening now? Most Italian Festivals in the United States take place in August and September to follow the tradition of Ferragosto. Ferragosto is a national holiday celebrated in Italy. People celebrate on the streets in many cities of Italy. It is Festa Time! Why is it important to anyone? Festas are wonderful Italian Cultural events celebrating with Italian Food, Italian Music, Dance, Song, and beautiful Italian Products from Gioia Italian Art and Products. 1) Geraldine Arata Pruett and John Pruett, Arata Fine Art Gallery, 450 Columbus Ave, North Beach celebrate the Italian Culture Wednesday to Sunday each week. Geri was born in the Mission District, her family comes from Genoa. Arata Fine Art Gallery opened in November of 2009 to the delight of the North Beach natives, San Franciscans and tourists who enjoy Fine Artworks of local Master Artists such as Geraldine, who received her MFA at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and received several local and regional awards. Venetian Carneval themes are featured. Geri is intrigued by the mystery and escape from the norm that Venetian Masks provide. Geri and John were married in New Orleans where Geri's masked figures can also be found in Studio 831 in New Orleans and Art Obsessions Donner Pass Road, Truckee. Arata Fine Art Giftshop features glass works, tiles, jewelry, tee shirts, cards and prints particular to North Beach , San Francisco and Italy themes. Geraldine has been instrumental in bringing art to life in North Beach by collaborating with other galleries to bring you the First Fridays Art Parties. First Fridays in North Beach is a regular event, the next is Sept 2nd "Nature and Nurture" featuring Samantha Fried, Carol Peters and Sue Crosman.
2) San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, founded 93 years ago in North Beach San Francisco celebrates Festa Coloniale on Sept 10th with a variety of entertainers and merriment in the street in front of the center on Washington Square Park. Visit the Wine Tasting Room upstairs and the "piazza" inside where you will find Gioia Italian Art and Products, Venetian Masks, Murano Glass Jewelry, Italian Ceramics, Antiqued Wine Bottles and more. www.gioiacompany.com
