Welcome October, a changing time from summer to winter. We enjoy October and the colors and the clouds, and the Halloween celebrations. September is past and November to come.

This October for Gioia Company is a celebration of things that warm our hearts and souls.  This Festa Gioia will be held on Sunday October 20th from noon to six pm. Please join us for an Italian Luncheon Shopping Experience. Shop for masks, ceramics, Italian jewelry and more.

Our special guest on Sunday is Valentina Cirasola of Puglia Italy. Valentina is an accomplished interior designer and decorator, andauthor of three books, Come Mia Nonna honoring recipes of her grandmother, Sins of a Queen, Appetizers and Desserts and Red, A Voyage into Color. Valentina will be hosting a Limoncello making class with her delightful stories and secrets of the making of this liquor in her native Italy. The class begins at 1pm and ends at around 4pm. This is the perfect time to start your LImoncello or Arancello for the holidays that begin in November, to give as holiday gifts, and to serve after meals as a digestivo. You will learn of recipes for the lemon rinds after soaking in the alcohol for 30 days, and what to do with the lemons after they are peeled. It is very interesting and fun. In September, I was fortunate to be reunited with 117 classmates from all over the U.S. in Chicago. What brought us together was very special: we had lived and studied in Rome Italy together. Rome…..Roma……this city was my first home away from home and I have a special relationship with her. Coming from a large Italian family, living next door to my Italian grandparents on a ranch, I grew up in the Italian Culture. I learned in Rome that I had a passion for the arts, especially the Renaissance arts, architecture, the beautiful Italian language, traditions, hospitality, and the amazing men and women of those times. Imperial Rome, there is nothing like her. Not all of the history of those times is to be proud of, but the monuments left behind leave me awestruck no matter how many times I have seen them. Walk Rome early morning, or late at night, so that you can feel her and hear her voices from the past centuries and centuries while viewing her layers and layers of civilizations. It is incredible to me the amount of handiwork, and sweat work, the human being has created--an immense Imperial City.  Click here to walk along with me on an early morning stroll through Rome to the Vatican City.

Millions prayed with Papa Francesco in hundreds of languages. While visiting with my classmates at our reunion I found myself for the first time, feeling that we as a group are people that have emerged greatly influenced by our European experiences and the city of Rome herself. As I traveled the long journey back to California from that year of study in Roma I promised myself that someday I would work with the Italian people, and now I have realized this dream. Thanks to family, friends, Roma classmates, clients and artists for helping me to make my dream a reality. Gioia means joy in Italian and Lee and I believe there is joy in giving and receiving.

There are many events beginning in October. We hope to see you as often as possible.
