Italian Weddings and Happy Mother's Day
Have you been to an Italian wedding? We were fortunate to go to Italy for the wedding between Maria Teresa and Pierluigi in Trezzo sul Adda, Italy and very beautiful. (left)
There are some Italian traditions that we love that are not always seen at our U.S. weddings unless the wedding takes place in an Italian family. For instance, the Tarantella is the favorite dance. In Italy, the bride and groom have a maid of honor and best man to stand up for them, rather than the many bridesmaids and groomsman we sometimes have here. The bridal bouquet is purchased by the groom and his mother as the final gift received by the bride while a single woman. The guests in an Italian wedding will help to carry the costs of the wedding during a “money dance” where the bride will carry the pouch and the guests will give money gifts for a dance with the bride.
Cake isn't served in many regions of Italy; guests instead receive “confetti," bonbonieri, or candy-coated Jordan almonds symbolizing the bitter and sweet to come in life. If a cake is to be served the bride and groom can choose a favorite, mille-foglia, an Italian cake made from layers of light filo pastry, chocolate and vanilla creams, and strawberries. Or serve up zuppainglese, tiers of pound cake filled with chocolate and vanilla custard, rum cream, and fruit, topped with sugar flowers or a candy dove, a symbol of lasting love.

Recently in Venice we witnessed a bride and groom waiting for their gondola.
A favorite type of jewelry, gioielli, in Italy and all over the world are the Murano Glass beads necklaces, bracelets and earrings. We have beautiful pieces on special this month for mother and all your special occasions! (Necklaces $85 each, bracelets $68, earrings $25) 
There are also several pair of Italian sandals made of leather in sizes 6 to 10 from Salerno, Italy at $78 each.
With all the activities this month on the weekends, we will hold the Festa Gioia luncheon on Friday May 12th. Join us on May 18 for the Fun Fundraiser at Helen and Eddie’s home in Los Gatos to benefit Little Italy Museum and Cultural Center construction. We will be donating 50% of sales to Little Italy.
