Viareggio Carnival, Versilia Beaches and Wine Trails of Tuscany Hi Kathy, Now is a wonderful time to come to Festa Gioia for lunch and shopping for spring events such as weddings, birthdays, showers, or for that item that you have had your eye on. We celebrate in the Italian fashion with great food, great wine, great people, and great great products! Viareggio is on Italy's west coast in the area of Tuscany known as the Versilia Coast.  Versilia is Tuscany’s coastal beach country. It's about 20 kilometers north of Pisa and 30 kilometers west of Lucca. Viareggio is on the rail line that runs along the coast between Genoa and Rome. These Tuscan beaches are characterized by clean water, a certified “blue flag” beach, interesting villages, and a background of the Apuan Alps known for their famous marble production, stone from Carrara and Volterra among them. The Blue Flag is a voluntary eco-label awarded to more than 3850 beaches and marinas in 48 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean for sustainable development of beaches and marinas. Viareggio is one of the most famous resorts in the Versilia and the largest beach town in Tuscany. It's famous for the Carnevale di Viareggio which attracts a million visitors every February, Liberty-style architecture, (Art Nouveau) seaside restaurants, summer nightlife, and shopping. The best way to explore Viareggio is on foot or by bike as the town is very small. Its size and convenient setting make it a great base for exploring the Tuscan Coast. While you are in Tuscany you can also enjoy the wine trails, tasting Chianti, Brunello, Montepulciano, Vin Santo, Sangiovese and others.  For a wine trail list by region, click here.
