Masks have been around since the ancient times but most popular are the Venetian Carnevale Masks and we are blessed to have award winning artist Carla Almanza-de Quant as the featured artist for Gioia Company. The Venice Carnevale begins mid January and culminates on Ash Wednesday.
We have been making masks with the Committee and honorary chair Lina Broydo to wear to the San Jose Repertory Theatre, “Just Misbehavin” Masquerade Gala, Feb 6th, at the Club Auto Sport. Lina says, “This is absolutely spectacular! A magical dream! Simply irresistible and truly unforgettable. Thank you so much for the beautiful journey into the amazing art of yesterday and Carla’s artistic and talented revival of it for today and tomorrow. Can’t wait to dazzle you and misbehave on Feb 6.” Con ringraziamento Lina.
Carla’s presentation to the Italian Cultural Society of Sacramento was everything the attendees expected and more. Carla was able to dramatize her story as an artist by replaying the Art Documentary filmed by Darlene Carman on her, PAINTING GOURMET SHOW, which won Darlene and Carla the award for the Best Art Documentary in the US in 2006. We had masks for sale and many enrolled in a Mask Making Workshop to follow in March.
Carla and Gioia also support the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto for their Venetian Masquerade Ball to be held also on February 6th. We have dozens of masks there for sale so if you haven’t picked one out you have one week before the event. We will be working more with the Pacific Art League in the future.
In San Francisco we have enjoyed our Wednesdays in the Arata Fine Art Gallery at 450 Columbus Ave. in the heart of North Beach. We have masks of all sizes, feathers, on a stick, miniature masks and the Raphael Angels and Michaelangelo’s Creation Hands for sale there. Check it out!
Also in San Francisco we participate in the ZAP Festival. This is a great event at the Herbst Pavilion in Fort Mason and the Dinner with the Winemakers this year at the Mark Hopkins. Join ZAP and don’t miss this event next year.
